Line Research is Bob Sabiston’s software/art project. It explores the idea of doing computer animation as track-recorded performance. The software records the path of your hand on a graphics tablet and represents that with different kinds of ‘brushes’. You can loop these back on themselves and build up interesting patterns. It is sort of like painting in motion. The Black Grease video was made with this software, as was a lot of Doves.
In 2005 we produced four hours of material using Line Research for the Austin City Limits Music Festival. It ran on the big jumbotron screens between the musical performances. The project is called Zeldima. Some edited podcasts from it are available on iTunes at this link.
